We are a company with a very long history and track record in the Import and Export software community. Derek Stevens started writing software for Custom Brokers back in the mid 1970’s as a side business from his job as the software manager for a computer manufacturer. In 1980 he formed Theta Systems Inc. as he saw a market for a company dedicated to the international trade. During the early 1980’s Theta added products for exporters and forwarders as well as continuing to enhance its software for Custom Brokers.
When the Automated Broker Interface came a long, Theta jumped on the band wagon and became one of the original testers. This led to the development of our first general package for use by Custom Brokers. From that point Theta expanded sales to provide services to Brokers throughout the USA. Early on we realized that the northern and southern border Customs business was significantly different from that of the seaport brokers and that we could be very successful in that marketplace. As a result of that realization we were successful in getting a large market share on both borders.
By 1999 the dot com era was in full swing and several such firms were talking to us about mergers. It appeared to us that these companies just wanted to absorb our revenues and pay for it with stock deals, so we avoided such entanglements. We did end up merging with Freightek Inc, a company with a complementary web product under development which fit nicely into our marketplace. Unfortunately, we ended up a minority partner in the new business so that when Freightek itself was purchased we could only roll with the punches, take the money and keep on. In 2006 the new owners were in turn bought out by Ozburn-Hessey Logistics (OHL) and again kept right on doing business as usual.
In the summer of 2007 OHL came to the realization that they had no interest in running a customer service based software business for companies who were their competitors. So they came back to the original founder, Derek Stevens, offered him back his product and the rights to support that product.
So here we are! Xtheta is in business, growing and thriving solely focusing on our core business. We have largely rebuilt our reputation for support and have greatly improved our technology infrastructure to better serve our customers.
